Can you tell us about Damnation Dawning, what was the inspiration?
Original song. Written in 1979 by one of Story Music's songwriters, Daryl Storrie. Daryl was 16 years of age when Damnation Dawning was written. Damnation was showcased in live shows when "Story" was a 4-Piece Rock band from 2007-2010. First recorded in 2011/2012 for Story's Introductory E.P "Damnation Dawning", released in 2013. The 2013 studio recording was very special at the time, inviting guest musicians: Bob Spencer (Skyhooks/The Angels/Rose Tattoo), Mick Pealing (Stars), Mark Ritchie & David Briggs (Little River Band) in production (Mastering). In 2024, Damnation receives new life with the talents of Aaron O' Brien, Bill 'Fozzy' Folino & Jim Currell - collectively known as Rock Trio "Standing Room Only", completing a collaboration team with Story Music's Mike Cohen and Mike Mathews, together with Martin Pullan (Edensound Mastering). This latest version highlights dynamic sound and resonates with both long-time fans and new listeners alike.
Inspiration behind Damnation, is more or less a fantasy story about a world experiencing an Apocalypse with themes of heartbreak and redemption, capturing the essence of lost love and the hope for reconciliation. The music video created in AI, referred to as a 'Short Film', captures the Damnation story greatly with each scene projecting each lyrical phrase.
What are you musical influences?
Influences are almost endless behind Story Music's catalogue of songs. With Damnation Dawning: The Angels, Queen, Dire Straits, Christopher Cross.
Do you prefer performing live or recording?
Performance will always be a great experience for any artist. However, as Story Music has evolved over the years, we have become a Studio based concept from 2010, with collaborative processes. We appreciate the creativity and the ability to keep inviting in different session players, have them contribute to different stories (songs). Ideas expressed by each musician to record, really are quite extroadinary.
What should we expect from your upcoming shows?
Live shows are a different scenario for Story Music, being a Session player based concept. It would require myself (Mike Cohen), make guest Drummer appearance in one of Story Music's guest session player's shows. At the moment there are requests for Damnation be available on CD format. We will be arranging a pressing for a limited number of CD's over the next month and a half.
What motivates you most when writing music?
Anything from life experiences, to whatever the imagination strikes at the time.
Which music/artists are you currently listening to?
A large majority of the time, it's always various artists from the 50's through to the 90's. No one specifically.
What or who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?
Always been musically inclined. Artistic on all levels. A passion that has been in the blood stream for many years.
If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?
Steve Lukather (Toto), Billy Duffy (The Cult) to name two. There are many more!
What is the biggest challenge you have faced in the music industry?
The strive to keep going and achieve greater goals. Patience & persistence/self-belief is the key to success!

Many more Studio recordings on the list. Includes revisiting of several songs recorded in previous years. All based on three sets of songs 'Story' used to showcase in the live music scene.
